The Greatest New Year Ever!

Updated: Feb 5, 2019

We enter into 2019, and whether you like it or not it is a new beginning for all of us. Many think of the new year as being a year older with the same ailments and imperfections. Others look at the new year as a new opportunity to accomplish goals and better oneself. I challenge you to do the latter and make this year your best year yet, Human nature is to always want more and you should, but in a way that betters you as a person and inspires others. Think in an abundance mentality, so you do not feel you need to hoard your love, generosity or knowledge for fear someone else may steal it. One exercise can be to do three acts of kindness a day. These acts do not have to be grandiose, but should be something you otherwise may not have done. For example, you could get your significant other's coffee ready in the morning, scratch your child's back while watching television or give a friend a chocolate bar with a self-made hand written card if you know they are going through a difficult time.

If you have wronged people in the past and are holding grudges, perhaps it is time to move on. People often do not realize that grudges hurt them more than the people they hold them against. If you want to renew your relationships, then be the bigger person and take steps to mend . If you do not want to continue the relationship, then there is no need to hold the resentment and anger.

There is a saying, "You are who you hang with." It used to think this statement was false, but have come to see it is truer than I previously wanted to believe. If you want to make more money this year, you need to hang out with people who make your desired salary. If you want to lose weight, you need to surround yourself with people who look how you want to look. If you want to be a better person, then you need to surround yourself with people who you see as admirable. This may mean cutting ties or limiting time with those who are contributing to keeping you in the rut you so desperately want to get out of. You do not have to make a big statement about it or hurt feelings, but distance yourself from those who are not helping you become the best person you can possibly be and know you are meant to be. No one can tell you your desires or goals, only you. It is also up to you to pursue and achieve them. Sure there will be bumps in the road, but who is to say those bumps are not a higher power directing you in the right path to ultimately achieve your dreams. Fear is being arrogant that you can predict what the future holds. Surround yourself with people who support you and make this this the best year yet!
